1st of a series of 3 Lectures delivered by Dr Constantine Hatzidimitriou during his visit to Melbourne in October 2023

Dr. Constantine Hatzidimitriou holds a Ph.D. in Byzantine, Ottoman, and Modern Greek history from Columbia University. He has been recognized as a Gennadius Fellow at the American School in Athens and has served as an Educational Counsellor at the US Consulate in Thessaloniki. Currently, he is the managing editor of the American Journal of Contemporary Hellenic Issues and the Journal of Modern Hellenism. With three published books and numerous scholarly articles to his name, Dr. Hatzidimitriou continues to make significant contributions to the fields of Byzantine and Modern Greek history and education.

Under the 2023 Christos Mantzios Visiting Scholar Award of the Australian Institute of Macedonian Studies, Dr. Hatzidimitriou, was invited to Australia to present a series of lectures to the public. This is the first of three lectures held in Melbourne at the Lyceum Theatre of Alphington Grammar School. In this lecture Dr. Hatzidimitriou spoke about “The Role of Eleftherios Venizelos in the Asia Minor Expedition and its Outcome” based on American (U.S.A) sources. Historian Terry Stavridis also elaborated on Venizelos and the Asia Minor expedition from the British and Australian sources. The event was moderated by Prof. A. M. Tamis. The lecture was held on the evening of 23rd of October 2023.

The series of lectures was made possible by the Australian Institute of Macedonian Studies in collaboration with the Greek Orthodox Community of Melbourne and Victoria, Alphington Grammar and the Branch of the National Foundation of Research “Eleftherios Venizelos”.
